The City of Montgomery Alabama has been the center
of civil dispute for more 100 years. First as part of the Civil
War, Montgomery was fighting on the side of the Confederate Army.
It then became the center of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s.
City leaders have made efforts to keep this rich and important history
alive within the city of Montgomery. They have done this by building
many museums and memorials filled with vital information and objects
from these extraordinary times in the nation's history.
Montgomery is also home to many historic buildings
including the State Capitol, which is one of the only capitols listed
as a national historic site. Many of the buildings in the area have
been restored to their original splendor and filled with authentic
period pieces. All of the locations are available for public viewing.
Other area attractions include a zoo, ballet, live
theatre, arts museums and a Hank Williams Memorial Museum. Hotels
are numerous as are the wonderful restaurants
doing business in Montgomery.
